 Titling of a Collector Vehicle

If, upon purchasing a collector vehicle, you obtain a valid title issued in Maryland and properly assigned over to you, it can be used as your proof of ownership and application form for titling and registration with the MVA.

If you obtain a valid title but it was not issued in Maryland, you must submit the vehicle title, that has been properly assigned over to you, as proof of ownership, plus the MVA Application for Certification of Title (form #VR-005).

Only if the vehicle is from a state that does not, or did not, issue a title as proof of ownership may just a registration document and bill of sale document be submitted as proof of ownership.

Proof of the vehicle purchase price must be shown so the 6% Maryland state excise tax may be calculated and collected. A bill of sale document, signed by both the buyer(s) and seller(s) is required.

A disclosure of the odometer reading can be attested to on the properly assigned title, or on the MVA Odometer Disclosure Statement (form #VR-197)
