2019  Tour: Bel Air Auto Auction Facility

 photo
Chesapeake Region members had the opportunity to join with members of the Free State Region, Vintage Chevrolet Club of America for a tour of the Bel Air Auto Auction facility.

Before beginning the tour, we gathered in the lobby for a group photograph with Kevin Perkins, our host. Kevin (in the orange safety vest) is a member of Free State VCCA and an employee of Bel Air Auto Auction.

The facility is MASSIVE, with ten lanes for the auctioning of ten vehicles simultaneously, approximately one every minute per lane.

Immediately inside the entrance is a reception desk for the meeting of any needs.

The long view of the ten lanes.

The building interior, including all the lane surfaces, are maintained spotlessly clean despite the large volume of weekly vehicle traffic that passes through.

 photo
Colorful posters and advertisements decorate the walls.

The auctioneer booths sit quietly during our weekend visit, but come Monday things will change dramatically.

 photo
Upcoming auction events are posted on the November calendar.

 photo
Large local car dealership organizations, such as MileOne are major users of the facility.

 photo
Thursdays are reserved for dealers only.

Once a vehicle is purchased, it must be removed from the adjacent parking lots asap... or else!

 photo
To tour the multiple, adjacent parking lots supporting the auction facility, we boarded a mini-bus. Those parking lots we cruised contained over 10,000 vehicles currently in the process of being auctioned.

After our tour we met up at the nearby Cracker Barrel Restaurant for lunch. Arriving at Noon on a Saturday, we had plenty of company, and a half-hour wait to be seated.

 photo
We were all seated at the same time, however, in groups of four.

As crowded as the restaurant was, it was operating very smoothly and efficiently.

Everyone relaxed and had an enjoyable meal, talking about our great tour of the amazing Bel Air Auto Auction. Thank Kevin, we really enjoyed it!
